CHRIST CHURCH

A dutch heritage with its distinctive salmon red color, Christ church was built by the Dutch as a place for worship for people at that time and was later converted to an Anglican church by the British. This building was built without a single joints. Housing handmade pews, brass Bible as well as portrayed in glazed tiles the "Last Supper" of Jesus and His Twelve Disciples.

STADTHUYS

Originally built in white, Stadthuys was later painted salmon red to match the surrounding buildings. Stadthuys was official residence of the governors and their officers in the past and now its the museum of History and Ethnography.

ST.PAUL'S CHURCH

Built by a Portuguese Captain in 1521 AD, the church was formerly a chapel for the Portuguese and it was named as “Nosa Senhora” – Our Lady of the Hill.

These reddish bricks are brought in by the Dutch from Holland...

As Melaka was colonised by the Dutch, the Dutch has renamed the Portuguese Chapel from “Nosa Senhora” – Our Lady of the Hill to St. Paul Hill.

In front of the church stood a huge pearl-white statue - the status of St. Francis Xavier with a missing right arm. it was said that on the day the completed statue was to be consecrated, a tree fell and broke off the statue’s right arm. Until today, the statue that stood in front of St. Paul Church has a missing right arm.

When the Dutch’s Christ Church was completed, the Dutch turned it into a burial ground and graveyard. The tombstones and the graveyard nearby were places for the Dutch to mourn their ancestors while they settled down in Malacca centuries ago.

A' FAMOSA

A’ Famosa fortress with 3-meter thick walls and a 40-meter watchtower was the most well-known and symbolic fortress that the Portuguese had ever built. It was also the biggest one ever built. However, A’ Famosa did not manage to sustain its golden days with the Portuguese. When the Dutch took over, the fortress continued to play its role in defense for the Dutch after it was renovated and rebuilt.

When British took over Malacca, orders were given to destroy this fortress. If it was not for Sir Stamford Raffles and Lord Minto whom interfered in this matter. As a result, three out of the four main portals of A’ Famosa fortress was destroyed. The only one remaining was the portal facing Bukit Cina, as we see today.
